Session Location Options

Over the last decade (plus some years!) as a family and newborn photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area, I have photographed families almost everywhere in the Bay! I have chosen my absolute favorite locations for families photography and maternity sessions and made some notes about them below. Please choose one of them for your session and we can firm up the timing of your session based on that location. Locations span from San Francisco to North Marin, with San Francisco locations listed first in the below options.

  • This iconic location in San Francisco has green foliage, Presidio buildings and palm trees, the beach and of course, the stunning Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

  • This location can get chilly, but if you are willing to bundle up and lean into the sometimes windy conditions, it can really pay off!

    Foliage is green year round and the beach is always in season in California! Be prepared for fog, especially in the summer months.

  • This location is available the two hours prior to sunset. Karl the fog is a staple at this location, so the bridge view is not guaranteed, but there’s enough to make this location amazing even without it!

  • This location is best for simple sessions, signature family and maternity, and smaller extended family groups (less than 8 people). Not recommended for large extended family groups.

Presidio

  • Lush and green, this San Francisco location has trees, a path, tree trunks to jump or sit on and ice plants that make for stunning portraits. This location has easy parking and is a short walk from the lot.

  • This location is ideal for families who are seeking green year-round as it looks the same throughout the year!

    San Francisco weather is unpredictable, but this location is tucked away from the higher winds and is a favorite no matter the time of year!

  • Sessions here are available both for daytime and sunset timeframes.

    Note: The sample photos are taken in the sunset timeframe, so if you’d like golden light, please select that time. Light will be much brighter in the daylight hours and naturally have more contrast.

  • This San Francisco Ocean Beach location is a stunner with soft sand and beautiful plant life on the dunes. Portraits are taken in the dunes and then the remainder of the session is spent playing on the beach.

  • This location photographs differently based on whether it’s a sunny or foggy/cloudy day, so when booking this location, please be aware of that and be comfortable with either option as reschedules will not be given for foggy/cloudy weather, only high wind and rain.

  • Sessions here begin 1 hour before sunset.

  • This location is best for signature family and maternity sessions. It is not available for simple sessions or recommended for large extended families over 8 people.

  • Beautiful location in San Francisco's Presidio neighborhood with brick buildings, gardens and views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

  • This location is consistent all year and a great choice post-rain because everything is paved with no mud! Be prepared for fog over the Bay views, particularly in the summer months.

  • Sessions here are available in the afternoon and sunset timeframes.

  • This location is best for simple sessions and signature family and maternity sessions. Not recommended for families over 6 people.

  • This San Francisco location is in a stunning eucalyptus grove in the Presidio neighborhood. There are groves of ivy and downed logs for kiddos to play on.

  • This location is consistent year-round, but gets very crowded during fall busy season. If you are comfortable dodging the crowds, we can totally go for it, but I would not recommend this location if you are looking for a peaceful, more private experience.

  • Sessions here are in the morning hours.

  • This location is good for simple sessions, signature family and maternity, and extended families up to 8 people.

Eucalyptus Forest (San Rafael)

  • This location is located in a wooded area in San Rafael in central Marin.

    There are beautiful eucalyptus trees as well as other evergreen trees, downed logs to play on, and beautiful views of Marin.

  • This location changes seasonally and is green and lush in the spring, and golden in the summer and fall.

  • Sessions at this location can happen in the PM hours or at sunset. Later session times include some mountain views, while earlier session times are focused solely on the wooded areas.

  • This location is good for all session types including large extended families!

  • This location is on Marin County Parks land. It requires an additional $75 permit fee and at least 15 business days in advance from the time the permit is submitted. Permit fee is waived for Signature and Legacy sessions.

  • This location is located on a hillside in Novato in North Marin.

    There are mature trees, open hills, seasonal grass pastures and beautiful rock formations.

  • This location changes seasonally with grasses changing colors and lengths and is not available during some winter months.

  • Sessions here begin one hour before sunset.

  • This location is best for simple sessions, signature family and maternity, and smaller extended family groups (less than 10 people).

  • This location is on Marin County Parks land. It requires an additional $75 permit fee and at least 15 business days in advance from the time the permit is submitted. Permit fee is waived for Signature and Legacy sessions.

  • A shaded area with unique trees and little trails and pockets of green. If the light is right, there’s even a sweet little bridge we can use.

  • This location’s foliage is mostly consistent year round with evergreen trees, with the surrounding plants being green in the spring and more prominent.

  • Sessions here happen in the morning hours, perfect for little ones who can’t quite make it to sunset.

    Morning light can sometimes be bright, especially in the summer, and this gallery is the perfect example of a session on a bright and sunny day here.

  • This South Marin location, right over the Golden Gate Bridge is a perfect little Eucalyptus Grove tucked away at Cavallo Point.

    While the bridge is not the focus like the Golden Gate Bridge location, there is an opportunity for a shot or two with the bridge in the distance as well.

  • Sessions here are taken in the daytime, in select morning and afternoon/early evening hours.

Woods and Bridge

  • This location is in a beautiful wooded area with a little bridge in Novato in North Marin. Location is immediately off the parking lot with minimal walking.

  • Foliage is consistent throughout the year, with a few weeks of fall leaves in late fall.

  • Sessions here are available for both sunset and daytime timeframes. If you are looking for sunset, please reach out directly as “sunset” at this location happens around 1.5 hours before actual sundown.

  • This South Marin location, just north of the bridge is a fan favorite with anyone who wants a Golden Gate Bridge view, but doesn’t want the whole session to be about that.

    It has Presidio-like buildings, a large lawn, a tree grove and of course, the bridge.

  • This location can get chilly, but if you are willing to bundle up and lean into the sometimes windy conditions, it can really pay off!

    Grasses are green in the rainy season and short and golden the rest of the year on the lawn portion of this location.

  • This location ia available in the afternoon and at sunset. For a pulled back bridge view and eucalyptus grove in this area that is available during the morning, check out the Eucalyptus Grove (Cavallo) location.

  • This location is best for simple sessions, signature family and maternity, and extended families, including large extended families.

Grasses and Trees

  • This South Marin location, right over the Golden Gate Bridge is a perfect little Eucalyptus Grove tucked away at Cavallo Point.

    While the bridge is not the focus like the Golden Gate Bridge location, there is an opportunity for a shot or two with the bridge in the distance as well.

  • Sessions here are taken in the daytime, in select morning and afternoon/early evening hours.
